For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.  Philippians 2:13

The Word tells us that God works out that which He had worked in. If God has saved you, He has saved you by faith—plus nothing. God is not accepting any kind of good works for salvation. But after you are saved, God talks to you about your works. The salvation that He worked in by faith is a salvation He will work out also.
James says, “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works” (James 2:17–18). Only God can see the heart; He knows our true condition. He knows if I have saving faith; He knows if you have saving faith. But your neighbor can’t see your faith. The only thing he can see is the works of faith. True faith will work itself out so that the people around us will be able to tell that we are different, that we are Christians. We don’t need to wear a sign or some sort of symbol to identify ourselves as Christians.  Others will know who we are and whose we are by our works.  All of us may not live in Missouri, but we ought to have the “show me” philosophy—showing our faith by our works.

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.   Isaiah 43:18-19

God wants us to quit looking behind and start looking ahead.  So many times we dwell on what has been done in our lives which can sometimes be a useless exercise.  If you are continually looking behind, you can’t see where you’re going. On the other hand, the more important thing to do is to ask, “What is God doing in your life right now?”  We can’t allow our past failures to possess us, so forget the former things and see that God is doing a new thing.  I dare you to just forget the drama.  I dare you to drop the baggage.  I dare you to lose the weights.  I dare you to let go of those meaningless traditions.  I dare you to break free from those chains.  I dare you to mend broken relationships.  As you look forward know that you can have hope through the power of God because He’s saying I’m giving you another chance.

When you look at your life do you see problems or possibilities?  God can do anything that needs to be done in your life!  He can make a way in your wilderness.  He can even make rivers in your desert.  See yourself as God sees you and get ready for the new thing He has in store.  God has already set into motion a new direction and a new purpose for your life — will you follow Him?

Have a wonderful and prosperous New Year!

O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more. Psalm 39:13

This passage is saying enable me to so live that my life will cause men and women to think on eternity. Enable me to live a life that will not turn folk away from God but draw them to Him. We hear a lot today about personal witnessing, but what about the testimony of our lives? Are people turning to God because of the way we are living, or are they turning away from God? I am confident that our lives are doing one or the other, so it’s important that our lives cause men and women to think on eternity in Heaven.

I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.  Psalm 13:6

Wherever you are and whoever you are and however you are, you can still sing praises to God. As I write this, it is easy for me to praise Him. When the Lord has been good to us and it’s easy to praise Him.  However, even when you’re in a bad condition, you should still rejoice in your heart because even in the midst of trouble, God has been good.  Think about how He saved you and how wonderful He is. When you can praise God in a spot like that, you have arrived.  Since the Lord has been good to you, you should give him some praise.  You may ask how you know God is good? Well if you’re reading this blog, you can rest assured that God is good.

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8

Do you need a sleeping pill at night? Have you ever tried the Word of God? It is lots better than any brand of sleeping pill you have used.

Oh, how wonderful God’s Word is for us today, and how much it will mean to God’s people in that coming day of trouble.  So, if you want a peaceful night’s rest, stay in His Word.

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:9–10

Jesus Christ is the Way. He is the only Way. He is the Way out for you and He is the Way in for you. He has come to bring us an abundant life.

The thief comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy. I think this is a test you can apply to a church, a religious organization, a radio or television program. Is it a religious racket? Is somebody getting rich out of it? Compare it to the Good Shepherd who came to save sinners and to give us life, abundant life.  God wants to bless us with more when He saves us.  I’m glad that God never settles for less.

There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?  John 6:9

Jesus has a way of taking our “little” and making it “a lot.” The key is we must give it all to Him.  We can’t hold back on God and then expect Him to make things work.  Andrew was wandering through the crowd saying, “Look at all these people that need to be fed!”  Philip says the money in the treasury won’t feed them.   But Andrew says all he’s found is a little lad with five barley loaves and two small fish. The young lad was willing to give his all, and Jesus took His all and worked a miracle.  Do you want Jesus to work a miracle in your life?  If you do, give your ALL to Him!

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?  Psalm 27:1

We shouldn’t worry about the direction we are headed because the Lord is the one who directs and guides us by the light of His Word.  Aren’t you glad that God loved us so much that He provided salvation for sinners?  He not only gives life, He also empowers us to live life on earth.  Is He the light of your life, the one who loves you and gives you strength?  If your answer is yes, you have no reason to be afraid.  Martin Luther summed it up best – One with God is a majority.  Whom shall I fear?  When you fear God, you have no one else to fear.

Let every thing that has breath praise the Lord.  Praise ye the Lord.  Psalm 150:6

We should praise the Lord simply because the wonderful sunshine we are enjoying is His.  He is the Creator.  There’s not a thing at our fingertips He didn’t make.  Scriptures say a day is coming when everything that has breath will praise the Lord.  So, why not go ahead and give God the praise He so deserves because He’s worthy to be praised.

Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.  Psalm 30:5b

We know in this life we will encounter trials, problems, and temptations.  The wonderful thing is even though these situations may come, they don’t last always.  Scientifically, it’s a fact that the sun is going to rise at the appropriate time.  Just as we are sure of this, we know that joy comes in the morning if we hold on and hold out.  Remember that it doesn’t matter what you’re going through because joy comes in the morning.
